Mrs.Long's Webpage!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to OUR classroom community! My name is Marissa Long and I am incredibly excited to be your teacher! Together we will explore, share, think, and inquire about how the past shapes our present. While we never want summer to end, the fall always brings together old friends for new adventures and it’s going to be a really fun year!

Frankly, I love history. It's been my favorite subject since 5th grade when I went around telling anyone who would listen that Disney’s “Pocahontas” was historically inaccurate. I think all the social sciences are exciting, fascinating and so fun to learn about and I can’t wait to help you discover why.

To tell you a little bit about my history, I am an “L.A. lady” who was born and raised in Santa Monica. After graduating from Notre Dame Academy, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!) where I majored in Communication and minored in Sociology. After college I did what any Los Angeles native would do and joined the entertainment industry! For six years I worked in entertainment publicity and marketing until I realized that TV was my not true passion. I returned to higher education at Loyola Marymount Graduate School of Education and never looked back. After graduating with the honor of “Student of the Year,” in my program, I began teaching social studies at the high school level, first at Redondo Union High School and then at Beverly Hills High School.

I look forward to teaching you so many new and fascinating things and making this experience as enjoyable and memorable as possible. We are going to be doing a lot of work but having lots of fun in the process. Lastly, one of the cornerstones of social studies is social justice. In this space, we promote a mutual level of respect for everyone and we treat one another the way we would want to be treated. You all play a pivotal roll in this class. Participation is rewarded, respect is required, and laughter is encouraged!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. All my information is below and my door is always open.
